Audio: Nii Lante defends Mahama over meeting with diplomats

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has defended former President John Mahama for showing videos of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election shootings to the diplomatic community.

The government has given the indication that it is in the process of writing officially to the Diplomatic Community in Ghana to put on record that the former President lied when he met them over the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election shootings.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, made this known to journalists on Sunday at a press briefing in Koforidua.

He said the government’s action was to get the diplomats to disregard the claims made by the ex-president when he met them on February 13, 2019, at the Peduase Valley in Aburi.

In one of the videos, the former President was alleged to have said that it was the funeral of the late New Patriotic Party’s Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Emmanuel Agyarko.

But it has turned out that the funeral video was, on the contrary, that of a deceased police officer, Lance Corporal Daniel Tieku.

However, Mr Lante Vanderpuye on Adom TV’s morning show, “Badwam” Monday said Mr Mahama was only portraying the indiscipline by the security forces and not to malign the family of the late Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.

To him, the NPP administration is only using Mr Nkrumah, to peddle falsehood as far as the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election shootings are concerned.

He said the former president did not undermine the authority of the state in his engagement with the diplomats.

“The diplomats are staying here in Ghana and know what happened during the elections. The video is not about Agyarko’s funeral or police cop funeral. He only wanted to depict the indiscipline by the security.

“Kojo Oppong is a fine gentleman but he has allowed politics and his government to use him for their parochial interest; he should concentrate on the lies being told by the security minister at the ongoing Commission of Inquiry hearings and not Mahama,” he stated.
