Lazy artistes complain about industry — Sista Afia

-

Over the years, there have been complaints from musicians about how financially unrewarding the industry is but for singer Sista Afia, it is only lazy artistes who complain that there is no money to be made in the sector.

“I mean, there is money in the industry and it will only take hard work for you get it so if you don’t work hard, you should not expect anything, it is that simple,” she told Showbiz in an interview on Monday.

When asked how hard she works and asked whether the money that came in had been commensurate, she said, “I work really hard, I do not joke with my studio sessions.

“My management also puts in efforts to make sure that we have things going. I have lots of gigs I play in Ghana and outside as well.

“Again, I have other businesses I run which are as a result of my being in showbiz or being an artiste, so if you work hard, you will reap results. Success is not a one-day event and it does not come just like that, it takes lots of hard work to get it,” she said.

Sista Afia has been involved in a lot of controversies since she came onto the music scene about four years ago whether it is for wearing revealing outfits on stage or for her fights with other celebs but she says she been able to rise above them.

“I have come to accept that it comes with the job and I have no regrets in life so far as music is concerned or anything that has to do with me. Believe me, it has made me a better person and I am proud of myself.”

A nurse by training, Sista Afia practised for a while before her love for music could not be ignored and when asked if she had any plan to go back to it, she said, “Ohh, I still help people, I love to help people and there is nothing I can do about it, but for now, I love music and that is where the focus is.”

Talking about her new single: ‘Corner Corner’ which she released last week, she said it was doing better than she expected.

“The song is doing extremely well. Yes, I knew it will catch on but not as it has done now and I really appreciate the love from my fans and their support,” she said.

In about five years to come, Sister Afia says the world cannot contain her and her team.

“There are lots of things being put in place to get to that level that the world will have no choice but to hear of us and see us. We have lots of projects coming and it is amazing,” she disclosed.

As the interview came to an end, Sister Afia touched on how she was cyberbullied for her size which had made her to decide to go on a weight loss journey.

“A few people have given me some comments that were in bad taste but I did not allow that to get to me at all”, Sista Afia said.

Born to Joe Essoun and Madam Perpetual Duncan-Williams, Sista Afia said her favourite Ghanaian musicians were E.L, Efya and Kaakie all of who she planned to do collaborations with someday.
