Fraudster jailed 8 years in absentia

An Accra High Court (Criminal Division) has sentenced a one Eric Afoakwa to eight years’ imprisonment in absentia.

Eric Afoakwa was put before the court, presided over by Justice Georgina Mensah-Datsa on charges of money laundering, defrauding by false pretences, forgery of official documents and tax evasion.

He was found guilty and convicted on five out of the six charges. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The convict was also ordered by the court to refund an amount of $132,660.00 to the complainant.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Organised Crime Office, Office (EOCO) has appealed to the general public to help locate the convict to serve his jail term.

It said persons with information on his whereabouts should contact EOCO on 0243168661 or 0302665559/0302634363 for his arrest.

In a related development, EOCO has declared one Charles Okyere wanted.

He is said to be a friend of Daniel Duku, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Venture Capital Trust Fund.

Charles Okyere has been ordered to report to the anti-graft body on Thursday, January 30, 2019.
