The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has gone wild on traders in the Mallam Atta market in the Greater Accra region and the Newtown Sub-Metro over the poor state of sanitation in the market and its environs.
The Minister who was on an unannounced visit with staff from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Standard Authority, Veterinary Doctors and Food health discovered the state of sanitation in the market was very appalling.
In an aggrieved encounter with the traders, the Minister charged them to treat sanitation as a priority else will be fined.

“You are the people in the market and so should take charge of the place. You cannot make your rubbish and expect government to come and clear because we the people are the government.”
The Sanitation Minister in making the warning get to all parts of the market took a preacher in the market’s microphone to preach about sanitation in the market.
She also expressed her dissatisfaction with the sub-metro office over their inefficiency as far as sanitation in the market is concerned.

Head of Public Health and Food Safety at Veterinary Services of Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Bashiru Boi Kikimoto also cautioned Ghanaians not to buy meats from butchers without veterinary stamps.
“We have received reports about people slaughtering livestock at dirty places hence we entreat the public not to patronize meat from any butcher without a veterinary stamp” he added.
Mr. Kikimoto revealed that, butchers who fail to get these stamps will serve a 3-month imprisonment term.
