Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has disclosed that, her ministry has secured an amount of 50 million Dollars for comprehensive rehabilitation, outright purchase and construction of new properties for Ghanaian missions abroad.
According to her, as a result of financial constraints, a number of Ghanaian missions are indebted to landlords and are currently facing the threat of ejection.
She added that many of government owned properties are in deplorable conditions with some instances, violating building and fire safety regulations.
“This Ministry has prioritized a number of Missions for serious and comprehensive rehabilitation, outright purchase or construction of new properties subject to the release of funds this year.
Fortunately, the ministry has secured a 50 million bridge facility from Societe Generale for this purpose”.
She therefore charged newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners to provide active leadership and ensure good value for money in their operations.
She made these revelations at the opening ceremony of a five-day orientation programme for Ambassadors and High Commissioners at the Accra International Conference Centre.
