The Brong Ahafo Regional youth organiser of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC has described officers at the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) and the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) as ‘lazy’.
According to him, if institutions of state like the EOCO, and CID were made to work effectively, without any favoritism, corruption in the country would be reduced.
Abronye DC was reacting to a massive demonstration led by Host of “Dwaso Nsem” morning show on Adom FM, Captain Smart against civil and public officials in the country.
The segment known as ‘Fabewoso’ focuses on unearthing corrupt activities among various government institutions. Perpetrators of the corrupt acts are named and shamed as well.
However, Captain Smart along with hundreds of anti-corruption protestors presented over 300 documents to EOCO, alleging embezzlement to the tune of about $1.2 billion.
He explained that the investigations and documents gathered were based on the Auditor-General’s report from 2015.
But speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Monday, the outspoken NPP youth organizer blamed EOCO for partly being responsible for corrupts practices by public officials.
“Why should a whole state institutions like CID, EOCO wait for ordinary citizens to gather documents of alleged corruption by officers before taking it up from there. What then is your use? The workers at these institutions are just lazy and don’t want to work and yet receive their salaries. . Even CID boss is the laziest person have ever met he lamented.
Abronye DC expressed his frustrations at the extent to which the canker had eaten into the fibre of public service.
He urged EOCO to take appropriate actions to deal with anybody who may be found to have infringed the law.
As a country, he noted that Ghanaians cannot afford to sit unconcern whilst any individual or few individuals wielding state power take a whole state institution like the EOCO for granted as if it was a private limited liability company.
Abronye DC said Captain Smart’s move is the beginning of the fight against corruption and urged EOCO to start working on the documents to obtain immediate results.
