Bukom Banku hints of retirement

Ghanaian boxer, Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku says he plans on retiring from the sport that has offered him so much fame and fortune for the better part of the last two decades.

According to Bukom Banku, he has less than two years in the game and believes the time has come to leave the stage and encourage younger boxers to carry the mantle forward.

Before his planned retirement though, Bukom Banku will be in action against Nigerian boxer Kabiru December 26.

The controversial Ghanaian boxer will take on the Nigerian in the topliner of the six bouts being organized by Kwahu Republic in partnership with Azumah Nelson Promotion at Kwahu Abetifi on Boxing Day. 

Speaking at a press conference held at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Banku who boasts of an impressive record of 30 victories in 31 bouts vowed to give his Nigerian opponent a third round knockout. 

“I have at least one and a half years in boxing and I am the star for this promotion, so I will not underrate this Nigeria boxer. I’m the third greatest boxer in the country so everybody should expect victory from me. I want to tell everyone that I will knockout the guy in round 3. 

The undercard bouts on the night features Jacob Laryea and Isaac Tetteh in a welterweight contest while Emmanuel Danso also knowns as Kwahu Tyson will take on Michael Osunla Osuman in a super middleweight contest. 

Theophilus Tetteh will do battle with Felix Okine for the National Super Bantamweight title. 

Razak Nettey and Nathaniel Nukpe will contest for the national super featherweight eliminator with Joseph Lamptey pitting his wit against Justice Addy for the national welterweight title. 

The boxing night forms part of an entertainment event dubbed Night on the Bliss which is being staged by Kwahu Republic during the Christmas period. 

The Events Coordinator of Bliss on the Hills, Mr Kwesi Ernest said that the event will help promote tourism in the Kwahu area. 

“Bliss on the hills is a recurrent programme that is targeted at tourists. This event seeks to promote the creative arts and tourism in the Eastern Region especially Kwahu”, he said.
