18-year-old lady kidnapped by supposed MTN job recruiters in Takoradi

-

A group of unidentified men who purported to be offering jobs at the mobile telecom giant MTN Ghana, have kidnapped an 18-year-old lady in Takoradi.

The men were said to have advertised the supposed job opening at MTN Ghana in a WhatsApp group and encouraged interested persons to call a contact provided in the advertisement to apply for the job.

Ruth Quayson who saw the advert in the WhatsApp group, phoned the contact Tuesday morning to express interest. She was asked to show up at the Takoradi Market Circle MTN office to be interviewed for a job but was kidnapped.

Nana Adwoa Quayson, who is the elder sister of Ruth, narrated on Takoradi-based Connect FM Tuesday that her sister left home in the afternoon for the supposed job interview and never returned.

Ruth was said to have been met by some guys at the entrance of the MTN office at the Market Circle who stopped and asked if she was the one coming for the job interview to which she responded in the affirmative.

“My sister claims she answered in the affirmative and they asked her to join them in a taxi to a certain location for the interview and that was all” Nana Adwoa who has been in touch with Ruth said.

According to Nana Adwoa, the kidnappers called her using her sister’s phone to claim they have kidnapped Ruth.

The phone was handed to Ruth to speak to the family briefly after which the kidnappers demanded a 500-cedi ransom before she will be released.

Ruth’s phone was immediately switched off as attempts by the family members to reach the kidnappers on that phone line proved futile.

Nana Adwoa also claimed the kidnappers later called the family to increase the ransom from 500 cedis to 8,000 cedis.

The incident has since been reported to the Police in the area.
