Deputy communications director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal Deen Abdulai has strongly defended government’s decision to borrow.

He says the NPP will not resort to reckless borrowing like the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, government has been compelled to borrow more in order to defray the debt the erstwhile Mahama government left behind.

“How do you expect us not to borrow when you messed the economy. The fact is that borrowing is not bad per se, however, reckless borrowing is bad and we won’t engage in that kind” he said on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” Friday.

Former President John Dramani Mahama is urging the Akufo-Addo government not to run away from the views it championed on loans during its recent days in opposition.

He said, in opposition, the NPP made it look like borrowing was evil, and that they could administer the country without borrowing money.

But after coming into office, the former President noted that the NPP is not only running away from all they said about borrowing but they are also denying their own quotations on the issue.

In a rebuttal, the former National Nasara Coordinator of the NPP posited that, securing the loans was necessary to pay the mature debts the NPP government inherited from the previous administration.
