Four people have been arrested in connection to the horrific killing of the commanding officer of a military detachment guarding a mine at Denkyira Boase in the Upper Denkyira West District of in the Central Region.
The men were arrested after an initial investigation revealed they played a role in the murder of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama of the 5th Battalion Infantry.
An Assembly Member alleged to have organized the mob attack which led to the death of the soldier is on the run, police have said.
The officer, Captain Maxwell Mahama who was said to have gone for jogging Tuesday morning was lynched by a mob after they allegedly mistook him for an armed robber because he was in possession of a weapon.
The Public Relations Officer for Central region, ASP Irene Oppong confirmed this to Joy News Tuesday.
She indicated that the five will be transferred to Cape Coast for further interrogation by the regional CID to enable them prepare the charge sheet for court.
ASP Irene Oppong also revealed that the police has mounted a manhunt for the other suspects currently on the run.
Meanwhile, after a meeting between the police and the military high command, they agreed the regional police taken over investigations into the murder of the military officer.
The military hierarchy has been to the scene to gather some evidence to aid their investigation of the matter, Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah reported.
