KNUST Clash: Staff cars, LED TVs, other properties destroyed [Photos]

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s (KNUST) demonstration which was expected to be a peaceful walk has turned into a violent one.

The demonstration which the students say was to end the management’s oppression of students has gotten out of hand with hundreds of students having boycotted lectures to join the melee.

In an interview with Joy News’ Erastus Asare Donkor, a correspondent from Luv FM, he confirmed that windscreens of cars owned by registrars and other administrators have been smashed and vandalised.

“15 cars of staff have received damage from the riot. The glass windows of Admin block smashed along with other LED televisions…,” the correspondent said.

The university has been reluctant in granting the students permits to organise what is known as “morale sessions” since some halls have been converted to mixed facilities.

Over the years, residents of Katanga hall have clashed with their rivals, Unity Hall, during such sessions which normally travel deep into the night.

Currently, both the university’s internal security and KNUST Police have increased their presence on campus to avoid further destructions.
