Graduates, Security Analysts schooled on cyber security

A US-based Ghanaian IT firm, Slamm Technologies has organized free cybersecurity training for over 100 graduates, Security Analysts, Network Administrators and other professionals.
The two-day workshop brought together over 100 participants, comprising Security Analysts, Network Administrators, IT Managers, IT Business Owners, Developers, graduates and others from Ghana on Thursday 4th to Friday 5th October 2018 and took place at the Accra Digital Centre in Accra.
Participants studied areas such as Cyber Hygiene, Spot Cyber scams, Phishing, Fake Websites and Malicious Advertising. Other areas also include Artificial Intelligence (AI) Digital Safety/Online Security and verification strategies.
The aim of bringing these categories of participants together was to give them the opportunity to exchange ideas on cyber security support and to protect the Ghanaian environment.
Addressing the participants, the facilitator who is also the CEO of Slamm Technologies, Samuel Boateng said the purpose of the workshop, dubbed “Cyber Hygiene”is aimed at helping bridge the gap between beginners and experienced IT experts in the industry as part of this year’s National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM).
The Cyber Security Awareness Month is an internationally recognized campaign held each October to inform the public of the importance of cyber security.
 This campaign is focused on helping the public to be more secured online, by being informed and knowing the simple steps to take to protect themselves, their families, their workplace and their devices.
He also added that the workshop was geared towards educating the youth on dangers associated with internet usage and how to protect themselves from hackers in the Information Computer Technology (ICT) space.
Samuel Boateng, who is popularly known in the US as Dr IT said the training is part of his plans to impact knowledge into the Ghanaian youth to create employment for themselves to reduce graduate unemployment in the country and the entire African sub-region.
Speaking to Adom News at the event, Mr Boateng who also doubles as a Cyber Security Expert urged parents to be concerned about protecting their children online due to some dangers associated with its usage.
He also called on the government to pay critical attention to the growing internet space by investing in cyber security to help eliminate corruption in the country.
According to him, the government must prioritise youth cyber security training by allocating the needed resources due to how rapidly technology is growing to safeguard the country from hackers and reduce internet fraud.
The participants were urged to use difficult passwords to prevent hackers from hacking their devices such as email addresses, laptops, phones and other devices for their own safety.
