Spio-Garbrah outlines what NDC needs to win election 2020

A presidential aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said communication, branding and advertising are a major problem of the party.

The aspirant, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah who made the point said winning the 2020 elections will be very difficult if delegates don’t elect a candidate who can erase the corruption tag which is like an albatross around the neck of NDC.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday, Dr Spio-Garbrah said the party needs comprehensive re-branding to win the 2020 presidential election.

According to him, his personal image as a politician without a record of corruption would be the magic wand for the NDC to win the support of Ghanaians ahead of the elections in 2020.

“In my 25 years of public service, I have never been accused of engaging in any corrupt deals,” he added.

The Former Minister said current slogans of the NDC had outlived their meaning, although they are well known within and outside the party.

He contends that the slogans need to be changed with more attractive ones which would appeal to the populace and help remove the wrong tags imposed on the party.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) employed similar marketing antics in the 2016 election to sell its ‘judicious’ policies and market its then presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as incorruptible.

The Former Trade Minister said he would use his rich experience in marketing and communications, spanning from decades of working in financial, government and international institutions, to come up with good and attractive policies for the NDC.

As part of measures to galvanize support for the re-branding, he said he will embark on educating party communicators across the country as part of his campaign to win the presidential slot of the party.

Dr Spio-Garbrah stressed that the corruption tag against the NDC contributed to the loss of in the 2016 election and the party needs to adopt measures to support the re-branding agenda.
