2016 VGMA: Social media trolls got me depressed, smoked a lot – Pappy Kojo reveals

Italy-based Ghanaian musician, Pappy Kojo, has opened up on his social media experience which he says had an effect on him for a while.

According to the “Realer No” hitmaker, winning no awards after bagging three nomination in the 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) got him depressed.

He explained that even though he had a tough skin against criticisms, this one overpowered him, causing him to exit the music scene for a while.

He explained that his absence was not because he came to do his “National Service” as people were circulating.

He added that it nearly turned him into a chain smoker since he wanted to cool the pressure off.

In an interview with host Delay, Pappy said, “When I got nominated 3 times and I didn’t win, I couldn’t handle it. I have always been a troll on twitter but Karma happened. I was going through depression. It was very bad. I wouldn’t go out and won’t go to shows. I was always indoors in Italy. I was smoking a lot,” he said.

Asked how he was able to get back on track, Pappy said “I just realized it’s something everyone goes through. I don’t think it’s healthy. People expect you to be great and there are no structures to make it happen”.

The Akwaaba hitmaker, however, said he is no longer smoking as he hardly gets addicted to substance.
