Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso in the Western region, Kwabena Mintah Akando, has described as shocking, the defence being put up by the government as far as the management of the national Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) infrastructure is concerned.
He believes the Akufo Addo-led government has no defence because it has failed to respond to the genuine and relevant concerns of GIBA and ordinary Ghanaians.

“The NPP government has defended this Startimes deal but can no longer defend it. They have failed to listen to the cry of Ghanaians and it’s about time we put them on their toes” he said.
The Chinese company has secured a deal with the government to see it extend satellite TV to over 300 villages across the country.

The Communications Ministry believes the move will help Ghanaians in rural communities become involved in national development as they will become more informed.
But speaking on Adom TV’s morning show Badwam Monday, Mr Akando wondered what could have motivated the government to be involved in such deal when it could concentrate mostly on Ghanaian broadcasting companies.

He, however, urged the communications ministry to, as a matter of urgency, ensure appropriate regulatory oversight without providing undue advantage to StarTimes which is already an actor in Ghanaian broadcasting.
