Adom News Editor and Presenter, Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, who is also the Founder of Vim Vim Foundation has completed a 6-classroom block for Kumasi-Amenam School in the Ashanti Region.
The building is due for commissioning later this year.
Amenam which is a town in the Ashanti region with a population of about 400 people, lacks proper schools and other social amenities.
Children within the community are compelled to farm due to poor school infrastructure.
According to Afia Pokua, she was saddened when she saw the children loitering outside the classroom so she challenged herself to build a 6-classroom block for the community.
She consulted the chief of the community about her plan and was subsequently given a piece of land for the construction of the building.
Vim Lady said the 6 classrooms project started 3 years ago but she had to take a break along the line in order to further her own education.
She added that she managed to build the school from her own salary and in collaboration with other businesses.
She said she also raised funds on social media as well as receiving support from friends.
Responding to how much it cost her to build the 6-classroom block, she said it cost her less than GHc 100,000.
On September 15, 2018, Afia Pokua led some volunteers from Leo Club-Ashesi University, Leo Club-Dansoman and Sugar Dem Gh to paint the school.
Afia Pokua said she will be embarking on another project as she thanks all those who donated and volunteered for the school project.
