(AUDIO) NCCE urged to educate parents on double track policy

-

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has been tasked to educate Ghanaians especially parents and students on the Senior High School (SHS) double-track system.

The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency in the Western Region, George Mireku Duker who made the appeal said NCCE’s education on system will enable the public understand the system.

He believes the recent challenges confronting the system are as a result of lack of education.

“The double track system is a very good initiative and should not be thrown into the gutters. The challenges we are hearing considering the introduction of the policy is because people don’t have much education on the system.

“To this end, I urge the NCCE to immediately educate the public on this track system so ensure that such challenges are reduced to the barest minimum” he said on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Wednesday.

The government says the double-track (semester/sandwich) system is to cater for the spike in enrolment into SHSs due to the free SHS policy.

Full implementation of the new system is expected to cost GHS 323million.

The objective of the double-track system is to create room to accommodate all the students, reduce class size, increase contact hours and increase the number of holidays.

Mr. Mireku Duker however debunked assertions that the double-track system was a re-introduction of the morning-afternoon shift system where some students go to school in the morning and close in the afternoon to make room for another set of students till evening.

He indicated that, though the system will gradually face out, government is ready to accept inputs to make the programme a success.

“The double track system has not been established and forever, it will definitely face out. We only need to make sure that students get the opportunity to go to school because that is the motive of the NPP government” he noted.
