Former Consul to Dubai, Daniel Osei, has called on members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to allow former President John Dramani Mahama to lead the party as its flagbearer for the 2020 general election.
According to him, Mr Mahama and his followers, during his term as President, worked against the interest of the party and therefore should not be accepted to lead the party.

“If NDC wants to come to power, it is incumbent on them to present a messenger who will come out with a message. Mahama and his gang worked against the party in all the regions and so he should not be accepted by the party,” he said.
Daniel Osei’s comment comes after John Mahama officially declared his intention to contest in the party’s presidential primaries.
This is despite the fact that he led the party to one of its worse election performances in the 2016 general elections as an incumbent president.

Mahama’s decision, although anticipated, has left some party supporters surprised as they believe Mahama needed not to contest after the humiliating defeat.
Others have however declared their support for John Mahama and welcomed his decision, indicating that he is the best among the about 11 flagbearer hopefuls to make a significant impression and possibly claim victory in the 2020 elections.

But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Monday, Ambassador Osei noted that Mr Mahama, who appointed him consul, does not have the “discipline, focus or the moral turpitude” to be the NDC’s flagbearer for 2020, adding that there’s no way Mr Mahama, whose life has been characterised by indecision as he stated in his autobiography, can lead the party to victory.
“Mahama was not simply defeated by Akufo-Addo, he lost the Ghanaian electorates across board because his reign was terrible and his personality also didn’t help matters,” he said.
