All my controversies are just for cash – Shatta Wale

-

He is arguably the most controversial entertainment personality in the Ghanaian showbiz today.

Shatta Wale and controversy are most often not far from each other.

From descending heavily on his ‘enemies’ in Facebook live videos to dissing them in Tweets or even showing his manhood in public, the ‘Dancehall King’ is always in the bad books of many.

But the man, who most often makes the headlines for all the wrong reasons, says all the controversies are simply geared towards making money.

According to him, he is soft inside and the crazy side some people see and hate are all part of the show business.

Speaking in an interview with Naa Ashorkor on Showbiz A-Z on Saturday, the 2014 Ghana Music Awards ‘Artiste of the Year’ winner revealed the things he says or does are only part of his work.

“Any time I come on the radio or any time I’m live on Facebook doing something [or] talking about a particular topic, I say it in a way or manner that people will get the ‘Shatta spirit’, that is what people know about me… the reason why I say ‘Shatta spirit’ is that is how I get serious with my work,” the ‘Freedom’ hitmaker explained.

Shatta Wale likened his approach to showbiz to digging gold, saying, “when you come there, [and I am in] my wellington boot and working gear and the way you see mud on me… I don’t think you’ll say I am dirty…this is an industry whereby when I speak my mind, they say I don’t respect, they say I’m bush, they say I am dirty…what I’m doing is fetching me some good cash.”

Asked about his incessant attacks on the media, Shatta Wale was quick to respond that “I like acting” and that, his attacks on the media are just for fun and not personal.

“…All that I’m doing on radio, on TV, and everywhere, it’s my work. It won’t stop if they want it to stop…” he stressed.

Shatta Wale is set to release his third studio album, ‘Reign’.

The 17-track album will be released on October 13. The only featured act, according to him, is Nigeria artiste, Olamide.

“Reign is an album that I feel will let people know my two different words. It shows the other side[s] of me,” he explained.
