The Acting Chairman for Abbosey Okai Spareparts Dealers and the National Organizer for Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Clement Boateng says about 3000 Abossey Okai traders are not paying tax in Ghana.
His comment comes after the Special Aide to President Akufo-Addo, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, hinted that government will increase taxes to raise more revenue ahead of the mid-year budget review.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, the former Director of Think Tank Danquah Institute wrote “will you support a VAT increase to keep your lights on, your secondary schools filled, your school kids fed, your streets clean, your streets safe, young graduates employed, and decent, affordable homes built for working families?.”
Although government has not been heard firmly on the possible increment, some Ghanaians are questioning the government for the intended move.

But speaking on Adom FM’s current affairs show, Burning Issues recently with Afia Pokua, Acting Chairman for Abbosey Okai Spareparts Dealers, Clement Boateng said government should concentrate on the informal sector.
He cited most traders at Abbosey Okai, especially, do not pay taxes.

Mr Boateng called on the government to focus on those outside the tax net, especially traders at Abossey Okai for the betterment of the country.
A Tax and Economic Consultant Dr Samuel Asare Bediako agreed with the Acting Chairman of GUTA and says President Akufo Addo’s vision of putting “Ghana beyond aid” can only be achieved if those outside the tax net are brought into it.
