The National Democratic Congress (NDC) didn’t have an effective campaign in the run up to the 2016 elections, the party only organized fun fair.
This, according to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’ said the party was rather organized funfairs around the country instead of embarking on campaigns.
“The NDC never organized a campaign, they never campaigned, the NDC was rather embarking on funfairs around the country other than campaigning and that caused their humiliating defeat in the elections…,” he said.
The NDC suffered a humiliating defeat in the 2016 elections with the party recording 44.4% of valid votes cast as against NPP’s 58.3%.
This defeat has been termed the highest in the country’s electoral history since the commencement of the 4th Republic.
The party has since set up a committee of enquiry to investigate the factors that caused the party’s humiliating defeat in the 2016 elections.
But the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Chairman Wontumi argues that the party needs not to go further to discover what caused the party’s defeat in the 2016 elections.
He argues that the party never had any concrete message for the 2016 elections but was rather embarking on a funfair.
This move, he said was against the NPP’s mission of campaigning and canvassing for votes.
“While we were busily campaigning, the NDC guys were rather busy doing a funfair and that accounted for their defeat,” he said.
He also accused the NDC of defending the Electoral Commission (EC) instead of focusing on their on their campaign.
