GPL: Hearts in 3-0 away win while Kotoko woes deepen on final day of 1st round

-

Hearts of Oak’s resurgence in the Ghana Premier League hit its peak on the final day of the first round of the 2016/2017 season, following the side’s 3-0 away win over Liberty Professionals on Sunday, May 14.

Thomas Abbey scored in each half of the match while substitute Cosmos Dauda scored between those goals to give the Phobians all three points at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park.

It was the final round of matches to end the first round. Hearts’ arch-rivals Asante Kotoko continue to lick their wounds as they dropped points yet again at home.

The Porcupine Warriors drew 0-0 with Tema Youth at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a match watched from the stands by new coach Steve Polack.

In the other match that attracted attention, Aduana Stars, who could have cut WAFA’s lead, drew 1-1 with Bechem United. Eric Owusu scored first for the home side in Bechem but Zakaria Mumuni equalised 10 minutes after the break.

At the Nduom Stadium in Elmina, Elmina Sharks gained the bragging rights over their Central Region rivals Ebusua Dwarfs as they pipped the Abontuabontua Boys by a lone goal.

Great Olympics also kept their rising form with a point gained from off former champions Berekum Chelsea.
