A driver and his mate were shot dead by persons believed to be armed robbers at Pishegu, a farming community in the Northern Region over the weekend.
One person according to the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Ussif Tanko, was left unconscious at the scene.
DSP Tanko said because the police attention was drawn to the occurrence late, the robbers took cover before the arrival of the patrol team.

He said the driver has been identified as Mohammed Alidu, 22, and the mate Abdullai Alhassan, 20.
The police chief said his men have intensified patrols on highways throughout the Northern Region to curb the menace.
According to him, a manhunt for the robbers has commenced and that the public should assist the police with information.

He said the driver and the mate were robbed before being killed on their way from Tamale to Pisheigu, a farming community within the Karaga district.
DSP Tanko said the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Karaga Hospital and subsequently released to their families for burial.
