Africa World Airline crew violated company policy in treatment of passenger – company website suggests

-

It has emerged that the alleged treatment meted out to Rita Kriba, an officer with the gender ministry, was in direct contrast with the company’s disability policy.

Rita recently shared a disturbing story of how she was denied access to an AWA plane because she was a person with a disability.

But a quick check on AWA’s official website reveals that the crew went in a completely oppose direction of what the company’s policy professes.

AWA’s “Passengers with Reduced Mobility” policy states among other things that:

“Accommodating the special needs of passengers with reduced mobility is a top priority for Africa WorldAirlines. We offer a variety of special services to such passengers, including:

Transportation to, from, and between gates by wheelchair (Due to structural limitation on our current E-145 fleet, only WCHR cases are supported)

Assistance for/to visual or mobility impairments while in the airport and on the aircraft

Accommodation/Support or assistance for certain medical requirements, such as stretcher use are not available at the moment.”

In spite of this statement, Rita has alleged among other things that she was told by a Kumasi-bound AWA crew that she could neither board their plane with her clutches nor could she also travel with an aid.
