Former Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti Region,  Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh has descended on a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko for allegedly undermining the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“I wasn’t shocked when I heard Gabby’s name as those undermining our King. You can continue spewing garbage even after Mahama was voted out but don’t dare take your arrogance on Asantehene because the whole of Ashanti is angry…,” he warned.

The attack on Otchere-Darko comes after photos of some NPP executives kneeling before the revered Ashanti King to beg for clemency at the Manhyia Palace emerged on Wednesday.

The executives of the ruling party including acting General Secretary, John Boadu and Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly called Chairman Wontumi were seen in the photos attempting to make peace with the Asantehene who was reported to have complained bitterly about certain actions by some NPP members against him.

Reports also indicate that some elements within the NPP are attempting to pitch the Okyenhene against the Asantehene.

Commenting on the issue on Accra-based Okay FM, Mr Ponkoh said he was not surprised when the former Director of Think Tank, Danquah Institute was mentioned by the Asantehene as part of the people seeking to undermine the authority of the revered King.

“Gabby is such a disrespectful human being and should be careful when it comes to issues with the Ashanti,” he warned.

He added that Mr Otchere-Darko is noted for spewing lies even against the former President, John Mahama.

Mr. Ponkoh indicated that bad utterances, especially against the Asantehene, are affecting the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
