The Kwabenya District Police Commander, DSP James Asiedu, said the rest of the suspects – Kwesi Adjei 37, Abrefa Mensah, 35 and Ama Bonsu, 25, are currently in custody at the Madina Police station pending their appearance in court.

DSP Asiedu said the incident happened around 9:30 am on Tuesday.

“It was around 9:30 am when a woman alighted from a taxi and hurriedly made a distress call that a taxi just passed and the occupant of the taxi attempted to rob her. So the officer hurriedly boarded a motorcycle and gave them a chase. He had them in traffic, ordered them to stop, luckily he had two other community police assistants around and he ordered the driver to turn off the engine while he called the police patrol team to come.”

The Police Commander said in a bid to prevent the occupants of the car from escaping, the officer who chased the suspected robbers stood in front of the car and tried calling the police patrol team.

DSP Asiedu said while at it, “the driver sped off so he had to quickly jump to save his life.”

“…And in the process, he shot and killed the driver. During the interrogation, they broke down and confessed that they really attempted to rob the woman. After taking their statements, due to security reasons we had to transport them to the Madina cells,” he added.
