Vice president of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has finally broken his silence to announce his intentions to contest for the presidential seat of the federation in 2019.
Mr. Afriyie gave the announcement on Saturday at his 50th birthday party at the Mensvic Hotel.
According to the businessman and administrator, a lot of consultations and planning has gone into arriving at “this all important decision” and he believes he has more to offer the game and the country at large.
“I’ve had the thought and the question as to whether I will be contesting for the GFA Presidency in 2019 following the public disclosure by my boss, Mr. Nyantakyi that he will not be contesting in the next elections”, George said.
“Following an extensive consultation with all the stakeholders in the game, I am glad to announce my interest to contest next year and I’ll be putting out my vision for Ghana football in the coming days”, he added.
The management member of Liberty Professionals, George Afriyie becomes the second person to openly express his interest in contesting for the FA presidency after owner and bank roller of Phar Rangers, Nana Yaw Amponsah also declaring his interest some few months ago.
