A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded into prison custody, eight members of the pro-NPP group Delta Force after the group stormed the court and freed their members last week.
The group raided a Kumasi Circuit Court and freed 13 of its members who were being prosecuted for their role in an earlier attack on the Regional Security Liaison Officer.
The 13 who were freed turned themselves in but police managed to arrest eight of those who stormed the court.
Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor who was in court reported that the suspects were brought to court in handcuffs.
He indicated that the group after their case was heard, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Their lawyer, Gary Nimako in an interview said his clients were not part of the group which stormed the court.
He also argued that his clients were arrested at Fante Newtown which is far away from the court premises thus cannot be said to be part of the group which raided the court.
He also applied for bail but was denied by the trial judge, Justice Patricia Amponsah for security reasons.
Based on what happened, Erastus said security was beefed up with well-built policemen with arms.
In addition, plain clothed CID men were also deployed to the court to avert any pandemonium.
The suspects have been remanded to reappear in court on April 18, 2017.
Meanwhile, leading NPP member in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Kwasi Yeboah, is pleading with the courts to deal leniently with members of Delta Force over recent violent acts.
