70,000 passports uncollected – Ablakwa unveils courier plan

-

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced plans to introduce a courier system to clear a backlog of 70,000 uncollected passports.

He stated that an immediate audit would be conducted to identify applicants and ensure the unclaimed passports reach their rightful owners.

“We will roll out a courier system so applicants can receive their passports wherever they are. There must be a clear identification of applicants, and if addresses are available, we will call them,” Ablakwa said in an interview with TV3.

He also emphasized that digitization and operational reforms at the passport office would enhance efficiency and speed up processing times.

Addressing concerns over Diplomatic Passports, Ablakwa stressed that their issuance should be strictly limited to government officials and foreign service personnel.

He revealed plans for a comprehensive review of the issuance system to prevent misuse and strengthen Ghana’s international reputation.
