7-storey building collapses in Kenyan capital, 15 people missing

15 people are reported missing after a seven-storey building in Kenya’s capital Nairobi collapsed early Tuesday morning.

The building located in Kware Pipeline, Embakasi in eastern Nairobi was reported to have developed cracks and dozens of residents were evacuated before it collapsed.

Kenya Red Cross is conducting an ongoing search and rescue operation at the collapse site with other security and disaster management services including the Saint John’s Ambulance service that disclosed the number of missing persons.

Last year, over 30 people were killed when a six-storey building collapsed in Nairobi’s Huruma district leaving hundreds missing with over 100 rescued alive.

The collapse was partly due to torrential rains and the poor quality of construction. The owners were arrested and arraigned.
