4-month-old baby killed in house fire at Kisseman

-

A fire outbreak at the Kisseman Junction slum near Achimota-Samodak has claimed the life of a four-month-old baby.

The inferno, which broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, destroyed over 20 wooden residential structures, leaving residents devastated.

The infant was trapped in one of the wooden structures that was completely consumed by the flames.

Despite the swift response by firefighters from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations, the tragedy could not be averted.

Emergency responders arrived just 12 minutes after receiving the distress call and successfully extinguished the fire in about 2 hours.

Their timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring structures, including a warehouse.

The charred remains of the infant were retrieved and handed over to the police for further investigations.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commenced an inquiry into the cause of the blaze, which has left dozens of families displaced and grappling with the loss.
