Even if you do not have a TV in your bedroom, you surely have Netflix on your laptop and phone. And after a long tiring day, what can be better than lying in your bed while watching Netflix and eating your favourite chips? Sounds heavenly, right?
Eating in the bed seems convenient in many situations, especially when you are tired or feeling too lazy but doing so is damaging your health, in not one but many ways.
Though occasional breakfast in bed can be fun, turning it into a habit is not good.
Here we give you four convincing reasons, which will stop you from eating in your bed from the next time:
Sleep health
Eating in the same bed in which you sleep can impact your sleep. If you engage in activities like watching TV or eating while sitting on the bed, it tricks your mind into believing that the bed is not a place for peaceful uninterrupted sleep. Eating in your bed encourages disruptive sleep routine leaving you sleep deficient.
Makes the bed a breeding ground for germs and bacteria
Keeping your bedsheet and mattress clean is no easy task, especially if you eat on your bed every day. Doing so makes your bed a potential breeding ground for bacteria and germs. One must change their bed sheets frequently in order to avoid bacteria multiplication on the space of your sleep.
You get distracted
Eating in bed makes you prone to distractions. We all know when we are distracted, we tend to overeat. You do not actually listen to your body when you are inside a cosy blanket with a bowl of noodles in your hands and Netflix in front of you – making you forget all about portion control.
Unwanted guests
Eating in bed may attract ants or cockroaches. Even the smallest of spills can lead to a rail of ants climbing on your bedsheet. You surely do not want that.
Verdict
Unless you have an injury or you are sick, you should try and eat on a dining table or on the floor with your legs crossed and not on the bed.
