33 ‘ghetto dwellers’ arrested in Kumasi

Thirty three people, made up of 21 males and 12 females, was yesaterday arrested in a police swoop at various ghettos in Kumasi.

The suspects are believed to be illicit drug peddlers and users who were located at various areas in the Ashanti Regional capital.

They were arrested at places like Tinka, Alabar, Columbia in Krofrom, Kwadaso Wood Market, Mayanka (Abattoir) and Safo BB.

During a thorough search, the police claimed they found wrapped dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp or Cannabis on five of the suspects.

The five people were Ajobili Braimah, 25; Mohammed Yakubu, 32; Fatao Issah, 18 and Ampofo Twumasi, 23.

Alimatu Sadia, 28, a female, also had in her possession some wrapped dry leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp.

This was contained in a press release authored by ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO).

The other arrested persons are Anita Abrekere, 23; Rahinatu Alhassan, 19; Ajara Bukari, 42; Linda Koomson, 19 and Hawa Yakubu, 18 – all females.

The remaining females are Monica Agoboba, 24; Adwoa Fremah, 19; Rita Afia, 20; Florence Yeboah, 17; Comfort Amano, 19 and Akua Dora, 20.

The other males include Nuhu Madey, 29; Kwaku Amoah, 19; Kwasi Sampana, 20; Sumaila Dagomba, 55; Kwabena Adongo, 19 and Andy Weststreet, 28; Ibrahim Karim, 26; Isaac Arthur, 22; Frank Akwasi Agyeman, 32; Elijah Gyamfi, 42; Nzubil Adongo, 19 and Osei Tutu, 24.

The rest in police custody are Abu Yahaya, 20; Opoku Agyeman aka Caesar, Sabeng Eric, 26 and Wakasu Abugri, 18.
