25 passengers injured in accident at Gomoa Mprumen

A collision between a Sprinter Benz Bus and a Nissan pickup at Gomoa Mprumen Junction on the Winneba-Mankesim Highway in the Central Region has left 25 passengers injured.

Thirteen of the victims sustained serious injuries, while 11 others suffered minor injuries.

According to Apam District Fire Service Commander, DO2 Anthony Kwesi Rhule, the Sprinter Benz Bus, registered GW 8172-22, was traveling from Accra to Cape Coast when it collided with a Nissan pickup, registered GN 3611-24, which was heading in the opposite direction.

The accident occurred when the pickup driver made a wrongful U-turn at the junction.

He further explained that the Sprinter driver, who was speeding, could not control the vehicle in time to avoid the collision.

The injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialists Hospital and Apam St. Luke Catholic Hospital.

While no fatalities were recorded, DO2 Anthony Kwesi Rhule cautioned drivers against reckless overtaking, speeding, and wrongful U-turns on the Kasoa-Cape Coast highway.

He also urged passengers to be vigilant and call out unsafe driving behavior to help prevent accidents.
