The Eastern Regional police have impounded 33 fertilizer sacks containing 2, 228 slabs of compressed substance suspected to be Indian hemp at Kpong ready to be transported to the Tema port.
Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh in an interview on Adom News said the substance was found in the possession of three persons who have cultivated wee in the proposed University of Ghana Soil and Irrigation Resource Center at Kpong.
He said one was arrested and two managed to escape and abandoned a Kia Rhino truck with registration No. GN 4587-15.
Ebenezer Tetteh noted that, upon searching the vehicle, the police found eight fertilizer sacks containing 80 compressed slabs of wee each, 21 large sacks concealed in big black polythene bags, also containing 68 slabs each, and 4 mini fertilizer sacks containing 40 slabs of wee each.
He indicated that 1,428 of the slabs have been marked ‘USA’ with a red marker, giving the suspicion that, that component is meant to be exported to the United State of America.
Police describe the narcotics as the biggest arrest in the region in the year.
