21-year-old shot as angry youth attack Police station in Tumu

One person has been shot dead in Tumu in the Upper West Region following a confrontation between some angry youth in the town and police officers.

The dead, believed to be a 17-year-old boy was said to be part of an angry mob that attacked the Police Station on Friday.

The confrontation was said to have been caused by an earlier raid on the ghetto of some youth suspected to be weed smokers by the Police on Thursday.

One of the alleged wee smokers, Kanwei Hanidu, 21, during the raid threw himself into the Tumu Dam in an attempt to outwit the police officers.

He was however drowned in the dam since he could not swim.

The body of Kanway Hanidu was later retrieved by the youth who decided to storm the police station to register their anger.

The body is still at the Police station.
