Ghana coach, Otto Addo, is looking forward to the challenging fixtures ahead in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where the Black Stars will face Chad and Comoros.
Having completed four matches in their qualification journey, Ghana, the four-time African champions will continue their campaign in March 2025.
They are scheduled to play Chad at the Baba Yara Stadium on Matchday five, followed by a crucial home game against Comoros in October 2025, which will be the final match in Group I.
In an interview with FIFA Media, Addo, who has successfully guided Ghana to four World Cup appearances, acknowledged the stiff competition they anticipate from both Chad and Comoros.
He stressed the need for his players to be in peak condition for these decisive matches, particularly after the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
“My hope is that we will continue to develop during this period because it’s going to be a very tough journey. I believe the race for qualification will be tight until the very end,” said the former Borussia Dortmund manager.
Addo pointed out that Comoros will be a formidable opponent, having shown their strength in previous matches against Ghana and Mali. However, he also mentioned that Comoros has weaknesses that Ghana could exploit.
He emphasized the significance of using the upcoming AFCON qualifying matches in September, October, and November to enhance team cohesion and performance, which will be vital for success in the World Cup qualifiers.
“Comoros especially have shown how good they are in matches against us and against Mali, but they’ve also shown that they’re vulnerable, so I’m hoping that we can use the matches we have in September, October and November in the AFCON qualifying to connect and get even better because that is what we will need to beat those teams,” he added.
Currently, Ghana is aiming for their fifth appearance at the World Cup, to be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The Black Stars are second in Group I with 9 points after four games.
