Cercle Brugge midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has received a late call-up to the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
The 21-year-old replaces AJ Auxerre’s Elisha Owusu, who has been ruled out due to injury.
Agyekum has been a key figure for Cercle Brugge this season, making 38 appearances across all competitions. His creativity, defensive awareness, and ability to drive play forward are expected to add depth to Otto Addo’s squad.
Owusu’s absence is a setback, given his experience in midfield, but Agyekum’s inclusion injects fresh energy into the team ahead of these crucial fixtures.
The call-up marks a significant moment in Agyekum’s career, providing him with an opportunity to make his mark on the international stage.
Ghana will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before traveling to Morocco to take on Madagascar on Monday, March 24.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars have commenced their training camp in Accra, with their first session set to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana currently shares the top spot in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers with Comoros, both sitting on nine points.
