Former Ghanaian defender Sam Johnson believes that Ghana’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar will be crucial in determining the future of Black Stars coach Otto Addo.
Addo, 49, is under intense scrutiny following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Under his leadership, the Black Stars endured one of their worst campaigns, failing to win a single game in six matches, recording three draws and three defeats, and collecting only three points.
With Ghana set to face Chad and Madagascar in the next round of qualifiers in March, Johnson has urged Addo to secure victories to restore his credibility.
“I can give myself another chance like Otto is doing. [If I were him] I would do my best, I’ll push to get to qualify for the World Cup to redeem myself or my name so that Ghanaians will come back to me,” he told JoySports.
“I will give myself that chance, but it is the last chance that he [Otto Addo] can get. Because after this one, I don’t think Ghanaians will be okay with him even coming back to be an assistant coach of the Black Stars,” he added.
Despite recent struggles, the Black Stars currently sit joint-top of their World Cup qualification group alongside Comoros.
