Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is set to announce his squad this week for Ghana’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Madagascar.
For the first time in 2024, the four-time African champions will regroup for the Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures later this month, aiming to bounce back from their disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Following heavy criticism for their underwhelming AFCON qualifying campaign, the Black Stars are eager to turn things around as they push for a fifth World Cup appearance.
With the tournament set to take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico next year, the team is determined to strengthen its campaign.
Otto Addo is expected to name a strong squad for these crucial matches, with his final list already submitted to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council for review.
Several key players, including Alidu Seidu, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Abdul Mumin, and Daniel Kofi Kyereh, are set to miss the games due to injuries.
However, speculation is rife that Andre Ayew, who has been absent from the team since the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, could make a return.
Meanwhile, Jordan Ayew is expected to captain the side for both fixtures.
Ghana, currently second in Group I, will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, at 19:00 GMT. The team will then travel to Morocco to take on Madagascar at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima on Monday, March 24.
