Ghanaian defender Abdul Baba Rahman is optimistic that the Black Stars are on track to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Following a slow start, Ghana’s national team recently achieved consecutive victories over Mali and the Central African Republic, moving up to second place in Group I after four matches.
In an interview with BBC Africa, the PAOK left-back expressed his belief in the team’s potential despite recent setbacks.
“Recently, I honestly think the guys have been a bit unlucky,” Rahman said.
“We [Ghana] have some really, really exciting young players in terms of what they can do on the ball and off the ball. We have good prospects too. I still have confidence in them.”
Rahman, who was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is hopeful about making another World Cup appearance, which will take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
“Of course, I think about playing in another World Cup, and I think Ghana is on the right path to qualify,” he said.
The Black Stars are set to resume their World Cup qualifying campaign in March 2025 with matches against Chad and Madagascar.
Before continuing their World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars will focus on their next AFCON qualifiers, where they are set to face Angola in Luanda, followed by a home game against Niger.
