Angola head coach, Pedro Gonçalves, has committed to leading his team to victory over Ghana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, as a tribute to his country.
The Palancas Negras, already confirmed for the upcoming tournament, will face the Black Stars in a crucial Matchday 5 encounter at the Estádio 11 de Novembro on Friday, November 15.
Gonçalves, who guided Angola to a 1-0 win over Ghana in their Group F opener at the Baba Yara Stadium, is determined to repeat that success against Otto Addo’s side.
While acknowledging the talent of Ghana’s squad, which boasts players from across Europe and Portugal, Gonçalves pointed out that the Black Stars have been struggling recently—a situation Angola aims to exploit.
“They have wonderful players worldwide, including in Europe and Portugal. But unfortunately, they’re not in the best moment now. I appreciate the work Otto Addo is doing for Ghana, even though it’s a challenging time. It’s just an unfortunate situation, but this is football,” he said.
“We’re in a good moment. We go into games with the mindset to beat the opponent, honour our country, and enjoy the match.
“This is our philosophy, and we will be brave on the pitch and try to beat one of Africa’s best on Friday,” he added.
After facing Ghana, Angola will conclude their Group F campaign on November 18 with a match against Sudan in Togo.
