Black Stars coach, Otto Addo has said his primary focus is on winning against Angola in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
During the announcement of the squad for the first two qualifying games, Addo stressed the significance of starting the campaign on the right note at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi next week.
“It’s very important that we focus on the next game, and to be honest, I’m not thinking about the World Cup at the moment,” Addo said when asked about the possibility of World Cup qualification.
“For me, I am just focusing on Angola; we have to beat them. It will be very difficult; they have a strong squad, and it would be a big mistake to think about anything else” he stated.
Addo emphasized that the immediate goal is to qualify for AFCON, with all attention currently centred on the upcoming match against Angola.
“We have to take one step at a time. We have to qualify for the AFCON first, and this is my aim at the moment. For this, we need a good start against Angola, and that’s what I’m thinking about at the moment and nothing else,” he added.
Ghana is set to host Angola on September 5 in Kumasi, before travelling to face Niger in their second Group F match.
Addo’s comments highlight the importance of these early fixtures in the Black Stars’ quest to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
