2025 AFCONQ: Otto Addo picks positives from Ghana’s defeat to Angola

-

Ghana head coach, Otto Addo has highlighted several positives despite the team’s defeat to Angola in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Black Stars conceded a late goal in their opening match against the Palancas Negras at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday night, ending Ghana’s 24-year unbeaten streak at the venue.

The loss places Ghana third in Group F, with Angola and Sudan holding the top two spots.

“We lost today, but it’s important to focus on the chances we allowed, not just the goal we conceded,” Addo said in his post-match interview.

“I’ve said it before—defense begins with attack. We need to press more, stay compact, and work harder. The second half gave me confidence.

“The positive thing is that our fate is still in our hands. We have matches remaining against all the teams in the group, so we just need to do our part. There were many positives from this game, though we should have capitalized on our chances,” he added.

Ghana will look to regroup and aim for victory in their next match against Niger on Monday, September 9.
