2025 AFCONQ: Otto Addo disappointed after conceding cheap goals

-

Black Stars coach, Otto Addo has voiced his frustration over the team’s tendency to concede “cheap goals” in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Following a 1-0 defeat to Angola last Thursday at Baba Yara Stadium, the Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Niger.

On Monday, Ghana conceded a late equalizer when Oumar Sako took advantage of a loose ball in the 18-yard box, levelling the score after Alide Seidu had put Ghana ahead in the first half.

With only one point from their first two matches, Ghana is currently third in Group F.

Addo expressed his disappointment, saying, “Very disappointed with the way we allow goals [to go in]. We had a quite cheap goal against Angola and now again [against Niger],” Addo said.

“We have to be on our toes to defend these situations better.”

Looking ahead, Ghana will play a double-header against Sudan in October as they seek to get back on track.

“It will be difficult again [Sudan]. For us, it will be a crucial match. We have to win.

“There is no way around that. If we want to qualify for the AFCON, we have to win. We are under pressure. It is still in our own hands but we have to win the next game,” he added.
