2025 AFCONQ: Otto Addo backs Kurt Okraku’s fiery speech to Black Stars players

-

Black Stars coach, Otto Addo has thrown his support for Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku following a passionate speech during the team’s dinner on Tuesday.

After the team’s disappointing start in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Okraku expressed his frustration and urged the playing body to step up their performances.

He also warned that he would support Addo in dropping any players who lacked the desire to represent the national team.

Although Okraku’s strong remarks sparked mixed reactions among fans, Addo, speaking to the media on Wednesday ahead of Ghana’s game against Sudan, defended the president’s comments as necessary.

“I think it’s good. Sometimes you need another person to echo what has already been said,” Addo remarked. “I’ve spoken to the players, and so has the technical staff.”

Ghana will face Sudan later today at Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off set for 16:00 GMT. The return leg will take place on Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

Currently sitting third in Group F, Ghana is eager to secure their first victory in the AFCON qualifying campaign.
