2025 AFCONQ: Kwesi Appiah hopes to qualify after win over Ghana

-

Sudan head coach, Kwesi Appiah, has set his sights on securing a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco next year.

This follows Sudan’s impressive 2-0 victory over Ghana in the Matchday 4 qualifier, played at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

The win, masterminded by the 65-year-old coach, propelled the Falcons to second place in Group F, with seven points from four games, just two points behind group leaders Angola.

During the post-match press conference, Appiah expressed mixed emotions about the result.

While he celebrated the crucial win for Sudan, he also acknowledged his personal connection to Ghana, making the victory bittersweet.

“Every game is serious, but Insha Allah, we will try to secure at least a win in the next match to qualify automatically,” Appiah said.

“It’s unfortunate because Ghana has a strong team, and it’s regrettable that they have to exit the competition. But Sudan has managed to beat them, so we will keep pushing forward.”

Meanwhile, Ghana is now third in the group with just two points.

The Black Stars face a challenging path ahead, needing to win their remaining games against Niger and Angola, while also relying on other results to keep their hopes alive for AFCON 2025 qualification.
