Assistant coach of Sudan, Ignatius Osei-Fosu, has expressed the team’s determination to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), though he admits it’s unfortunate playing against Ghana.
The Sudanese national team, known as the Falcons, is currently being led by Ghanaian coaches, with Kwesi Appiah serving as the head coach.
Having secured both a win and a loss in their first two qualifying matches, Sudan will now face Ghana in a crucial doubleheader.
Speaking ahead of the matches, Osei-Fosu, who has previously coached Medeama SC and Techiman Eleven Wonders, highlighted Kwesi Appiah’s experience.
He emphasized that the former Black Stars coach is not focused on Ghana’s current coaching situation under Otto Addo and stated that Appiah has nothing left to prove in terms of his coaching abilities.
“Kwesi Appiah has nothing to prove. His coaching credentials are there for all to see. For me, nobody even knows I’m the assistant coach of Sudan,” he said.
“We just want to qualify and that’s the aim. It’s just unfortunate we have to face Ghana. I wish this match didn’t happen,” he added.
The first leg of the doubleheader will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, with the second leg set for October 14 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
