Black Stars coach, Otto Addo has described his side’s failure to win in their home matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers as “shameful and painful.”
The Black Stars faced Sudan in a doubleheader, hoping to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and a draw against Niger in Berkane in their earlier qualifiers.
Unfortunately, Ghana was held to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium and then suffered a 2-0 loss in the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
Reflecting on the disappointing results, the 45-year-old coach expressed his frustration, emphasizing that it was unacceptable not to have won their home games.
He assured fans that the team would learn from these setbacks and strive to improve.
“It is really shameful that at least we didn’t win our home games to get in a good situation for our away games,” he told Ghana FA Media.
“We have to do better and surely we have to learn and it’s very, very painful but surely we can use this surely to learn out of our mistakes,” he added.
After four matches, Ghana sits third in Group F with only two points.
The Black Stars will regroup next month for their final round of qualifiers, facing Niger at home before travelling to play Angola.
To qualify for the tournament in Morocco next year, Ghana hopes that Sudan will lose their remaining two matches.
