Ghana coach Otto Addo has stated that he cannot wish Kwesi Appiah good luck when they face off in October for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars will play Sudan, coached by Kwesi Appiah, in matchday three and four of the qualifiers.
Ghana will first host Sudan on October 7 at a venue yet to be confirmed, before travelling to the Al-Merrikh Stadium for the return leg on October 15.
Speaking about the upcoming clash, Addo expressed his respect for Appiah but emphasized that he couldn’t extend well wishes to his opponent.
“We all know Kwesi Appiah—he’s a great guy, a gentleman, and a good coach. I really like him,” Addo said during a CAF seminar on Thursday.
“Normally, I would wish him all the best, but certainly not against us,” the 45-year-old added.
The Black Stars have had a rough start to their AFCON qualifying campaign, losing 1-0 to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and drawing 1-1 with Niger in Berkane, Morocco.
These results leave Ghana in third place in Group F, with just one point from two games.
Kwesi Appiah has had two stint with the Black Stars. He is famously remembered for qualifying the team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
